How can we help?

Dex is built and run by one person, so there's no call centre and no ticket queue — just an inbox that reaches the developer directly. Most answers are below; anything else, email us.

[email protected] Usually answered within 2 working days

Something's broken

Email [email protected] with what you did and what happened. Screenshots help a lot.

You've got an idea

Feature requests genuinely get read and shape what gets built next. Same address.

Security or privacy

[email protected] for vulnerabilities, [email protected] for data requests.

01Getting help

The fastest way to get an answer is [email protected]. It goes straight to the person who builds Dex, so there's no first-line script to get through.

What to include in a bug report

  • What you were doing — the screen you were on and what you tapped.
  • What happened, and what you expected instead.
  • Where — the mobile app or the website, and which browser if it's the web.
  • A screenshot, if the problem is something you can see.

You don't need to reproduce it perfectly or diagnose it. A vague report of a real problem beats no report.

02Account & sign-in

Is Dex free?

Yes. Dex is free to use, there's no paid tier today, and there are no ads or in-app purchases anywhere in the app.

I've forgotten my password

Self-service password reset isn't built yet

Email [email protected] from the address on your account and we'll sort it out manually. If you originally signed up with Google, use the Google button instead — that account has no password to reset.

Can I sign in with Google?

Yes, on both the website and the mobile app. If you first created an account with an email and password, keep using those — the two aren't linked automatically.

How do I change my name or email?

Open Profile and tap the field you want to change. Accounts created through Google take their email from Google, so that one isn't editable in Dex.

How do I delete my account?

Profile → Delete account. It removes your folders, decks, cards and study history immediately, and it can't be undone. See the privacy policy for exactly what's removed and what isn't.

03Studying & scheduling

How does Dex decide what to show me?

Dex uses spaced repetition: each card is scheduled to come back just before you'd be likely to forget it. Rating a card again brings it back soon, easy pushes it further out. The more you review, the better the timing fits you.

Is there a daily review limit?

No. Reviews are uncapped — if you have 400 cards due, Dex will let you do all 400. There's no daily cap and no artificial goal to hit.

Why has a card come back so soon?

Because you rated it again or hard recently. Cards you find difficult are deliberately repeated at short intervals until they stick, then the gaps grow quickly.

Can I reset my progress on a deck?

Yes — open the deck and reset its progress. The cards stay, the scheduling starts over.

Can I hear a card read aloud?

Tap the speaker icon on a card. Audio is generated the moment you ask for it, so there's a brief pause the first time a given card is played; after that it's instant.

04Importing & creating cards

Can I import my Anki decks?

Yes — import an Anki .apkg package and your cards come across. Dex also reads Anki's own scheduling data, so cards you've already learned keep their progress instead of starting from scratch.

Can Dex make cards from a photo or a document?

Yes. Pick a photo or file when creating cards and Dex will pull the content out into flashcards for you to review and edit before saving. The file itself is never stored — see the privacy policy.

Why did the import miss some cards?

Very large decks and unusual note types are the usual causes. Email [email protected] and attach the file if you can — it's the quickest way to get the importer fixed.

05Sharing decks

How do I share a deck?

On the website, switch the deck's visibility to public. That gives it a link anyone can open without a Dex account.

What can people see?

The deck's title, description, languages, card count, and every card in it. They do not see your name, your email or anything else about you — shared decks carry no owner identity.

Public decks can show up in search results

A shared deck's page is crawlable, and people who add it keep their copy even if you make the deck private again. Don't put anything private in a deck you plan to share.

Someone shared a deck with me — how do I keep it?

Open the link and choose Add. You get your own independent copy, so editing it won't affect theirs and vice versa.

06Apps & offline

Where can I use Dex?

On the web at dex.cards in any modern browser, and in the Dex mobile app. Your account is the same everywhere and your decks sync between them.

Does it work offline?

The mobile app keeps a local copy of decks you've opened recently, so you can keep practising without a connection. Changes sync when you're back online. Creating and importing cards needs a connection.

Can I change the app's language?

Yes — Dex's interface is available in 20 languages. On mobile it's under Profile → Language; on the web use the language switcher in the top bar. This changes the interface only, not your cards.

07Privacy & your data

What Dex stores, why, and who it reaches is set out in full in the privacy policy. The short version: no ads, no tracking, nothing sold, decks private by default, and your data hosted in the EU.
